In 1994, DSP jumped into the new genre of 10 minute plays as a way to offer opportunities to new actors and directors. We called the project To The Point, and it was largely inspired by the publication that year of a wonderful collection of short plays called Instant Applause (Blizzard Publishing). Here’s the program from way back then:
In 1997 and 2000, we repeated this project, again allowing many rookies and veterans to challenge themselves on tiny, meaty pieces. Many of those performers and directors are still active in the local theatre community.
And now in 2017, we’re tackling this exciting genre once more, but with so many differences. Andra Kelly has chosen and will direct all 11 plays, and she’ll cast an ensemble of no more than 10 to play all of the parts. In keeping with Andra’s theme that “each man, in his time, plays many parts” (sound familiar? – yes, that’s Shakespeare), these actors will make multiple entrances and exits building several characters on the way.
The audition is Wed. Sept. 6 at the Arts Resource Centre at 7:30 pm. Reserve a script for advance reading by contacting DSP through firstname.lastname@example.org
I hope to see you there.
